Today We Celebrate Gohar Gasparyan's Birthday

Gohar Gasparyan

Gohar Gasparyan also known as the "Armenian nightingale", was an Armenian opera singer. Born to an Armenian family in Cairo, Gasparyan studied at a Music Academy in the city.

In 1948, she migrated to Soviet Armenia along with thousands of other Armenians from the Middle East. She performed at the Armenian Opera Theater - in 23 operas, as well as concerts.

She also taught at the Yerevan State Conservatory. Gasparyan was a People's Artist of the USSR, Socialist Work hero and Mesrop Mashtots order-bearer.
