Maestro Mikael Avetisyan was appointed Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Glendale Philharmonic since the inception of the orchestra. Avetisyan holds Doctor of Music and Master Degrees in Opera-Symphony Conducting and Ethnomusicology a from the Yerevan State Conservatory in Armenia and St. Petersburg State Conservatory in Russia.
Avetisyan studied with legendary conductors-teachers Yasha Voskanian, Ohan Durian and Ilya Musin. From 1994 to 1997 our Maestro held positions of the Principal Conductor of the Yerevan State Symphony Orchestra and Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Armenian State Philharmonic Orchestra.
Starting 2002 Maestro Avetisyan was appointed conductor for the New Valley Symphony Orchestra, United States. Presently, Avetisyan is the Music Director of the Los Angeles Armenian Society Choir, an instructor of composition and conducting at the International School of Music in Glendale, and Music Director and Principal Conductor of the Glendale Philharmonic Orchestra.
Maestro Averisyan’s awards include a diploma from the 35th Kirill Kondrashin Conductors Master classes held in Netherlands by Sir Edward Downes,Peter Eotvos, and City of Glendale and Los Angeles County Artistic Achievement Diamond Award.
In 2007 Mikael Avetisyan was showcased in The Bruno Walter National Conductors Preview with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra in Jacksonville, Florida. Avetisyan's recordings with “Moscow” Symphony Orchestra were released on RCD.
